Curriculum
Students will be able to develop
communicative competence in listening, speaking, reading and
writing. Through essentially an inductive approach, students will
gain an intuitive understanding of how the language is acquired and
how they can use this knowledge to express themselves
linguistically. This is accomplished by developing and refining
their intuitive skills, students also acquired a basic understanding
and appreciation of the diversity of cultures in the Spanish
speaking world.
SKILLS
Listening: Students
will be able to distinguish new sounds from their native language
Speaking: Language is introduced and expanded upon slowly
There is repeated exposure to speak. Many exercises allow the
students to respond physically to Spanish TPR commands.
Reading: During this skill students explore Spanish speaking
cultures and investigate relevant topics. Students will comprehend
questions and understand everyday life in Spanish speaking countries
around the world.
Writing: At the end of the Spanish course students will be
able to write in the target language. Workbook pages can be
completed during class. We review the lesson taught at the end of
the day.
PRE-K through
GRADE 2
Students will show comprehension by
following commands, express farewell, use expressions for greetings,
identify classroom objects. Students will respond spontaneously to
questions, count numbers from 1 – 10.
3rd & 4th GRADE
Students reproduce sounds and gestures, identify numbers from 1 –
20, name colors, identify colors and days of the week. Students use
expressions of daily life situations.
5th & 6th GRADE
Students will
develop listening and speaking skills in the Spanish language.
Listen and comprehend questions, make simple sentences using new
vocabulary. Understanding of conjugations of verbs according to
their form. Students in the fifth grade receive instruction 3 days
per week Students in the 6th grade receive instruction 4 days per
week.
7th & 8th GRADE
Students will develop the 4 important skills to learn the new
language; listening, speaking, reading and writing. Grammar will be
emphasized. Students will identify the days of the week, month of
the year, simple description of people, basic travel expressions,
the use of gender, articles in writing, and understanding of the use
of present tense, past and future.
