Kindergarten Curriculum

WReligion    
Students are taught that all are God’s creation the shared responsibility all have in serving as stewards of His gifts.  His greatest gift, the person of Jesus Christ is central to the Religion studies.  Prayer, liturgical events on the Church calendar, the Holy Family, the lives of the saints, the Mass, the parish, and family life are topics taught as part of our religion curriculum. 

&Language Arts
An understanding that print has meaning is required as the building block for the skills of letter recognition, word recognition, and sequencing.  Essential components of the curriculum are phonics, comprehension, punctuation, and handwriting skills.

¯Mathematics
Concepts include recognition of colors and positional words, addition, subtraction, graphing, patterns, money, time, geometry, measurement, and problem solving strategies.  The students will also be learning to identify, count, and write the numbers to 31.

þ Science
Study the characteristics of living things, body parts, the senses, the earth, and the sky is conducted.

Social Studies
Various themes such as school friends, neighbors, needs and wants, the city and the country, and holidays are studied.


RECESS
Students have morning and lunch recesses.  They bring a healthy snack to eat during the morning.  They are encouraged to nap or rest in the afternoon for approximately 30 minutes. 

FSupplemental Curriculum

Kindergarten students receive instruction in Spanish, art, music, and physical education.  They also visit the media center as well as the computer lab.

Students attend Mass weekly with the rest of the school.

#Art
Students are exposed to basic elements of drawing through shapes and colors.

¯Music
Students explore elements of Music such as rhythm, movement, long and short sounds as well as upward and downward tonal movement.

¨Media
Students explore the Media Center through basic concepts of titles, authors, and subjects.  Students can check out books appropriate to their age level.

U Physical Education
Students are exposed to fitness assessments, traveling/locomotor skills, Body management/Gymnastics/Dance, Soccer. Volleyball, Football, Basketball, Track, T-ball and individual dual sports such as Golf, Tennis, and Badminton are taught.

,Spanish
Student learn elements of conversation through greetings, salutations, colors, numbers, and basic vocabulary.

:Technology
Students are introduced to technology through the classroom as well as in the computer laboratory.  Students learn the appropriate use of the computer, mouse, keyboard, recognizing icons, and maneuvering through simple tutorial programs.
