Pre-Kindergarten/VPK

Our Lady of Lourdes pre-primary department is a busy and exciting place! Children are exposed to an interactive, developmentally appropriate program that reflects the philosophy of the school. The curriculum strives to educate the total child and promote growth in all areas of development: intellectual, social, physical, spiritual, and emotional. Daily opportunities for creative expression are provided in both classroom and resource classes. A variety of teaching techniques is used to meet the needs of students and to challenge them to become independent thinkers and learners.prek_susie

Low student-teacher ratios provide for excellent classroom environments. Each classroom has a degreed teacher, as well as a qualified full-time teaching assistant. Pre-primary faculty and staff are certified in CPR and first aid.

Our Lady of Lourdes school offers two Pre-Kindergarten programs. One for children two years away from Kindergarten (Pre-K3) and one for children who will be entering Kindergarten the following school year. Our Pre-school programs offer children a learning environment that is loving, challenging, hands on, developmental, and most of all - FUN! The preschool plans it's activities knowing that children learn by "PLAYING AND DOING". Developmentally appropriate child-centered experiences are provided to stimulate curiosity and to develop self-confidence and independence.

The center provides hands-on-learning experiences in an academic readiness program. Language is developed through stories, poems, songs, finger plays, through both one-to-one and whole group sharing. Play areas are provided where children can dream and make-believe. A variety of substances are manipulated providing sensory experiences. Through investigation and science experiments, the children learn about the world in which they live. Gross and fine motor skills are developed through physical activities and creative arts.

pre-k-libraryThrough songs, storytelling of scripture, prayers, finger-plays, games and art activities the children learn about God's love. Self-concepts of LOVING, SHARING and CARING are encouraged.
